Lee & Dave’s Excellent Adventure - West Virginia

Ride Description: Twisties through WV coal country.

This will be a 3 day ride out to Beckley, WV where we will do a lot of twisties riding around the Gauley and New river area as well as touring historic coal country. 

Day 1 will be 270 miles to Beckley, no highways, plenty of scenic backroads riding down towards West Virginia where we will even experience some incredibly awesome twisties.

Day 2 will include a morning and afternoon loop totaling 285 miles.  The morning loop is 144 miles, known as Coal Heritage North.  Dramatic overlooks and winding rivers are hallmarks of this route through Raleigh, Kanawha, and Fayette counties.  We will also experience the New River Gorge Bridge, which boast the longest steel arch span in the Western Hemisphere and third highest in the US.  This route will include the Talon, a twisty adventure up and down the mountain and then off to lunch.

The afternoon loop will consist of 140 miles in the southern region rolling thru Odd, WV and points south. This is another crazy backroads curvy route where you will ask yourself at times, when do the curves stop?

Day 3 will be very similar to Day 1 - 270 miles back, no highways, slightly different route out of WV.  We head up 125 out of Portsmouth where we will ride through a portion of the Shawnee forest as we make our way back to the Keg.

This is a CLOSED Chapter event.  Members can bring one guest.

Road Conditions:  Mostly back roads with many curvy sections and elevation changes that will require skill and concentration.  Some State highways, no Interstate.

Miles:  We will average 270 per day.  Approximately 800 round trip.

Costs:  2 nights lodging, 3 days meals & gas.

Room Rate:    $149.00 + tax per night.  20 Doubles/10 Kings being held at this rate.

Cancellation:    48 hours prior to arrival.

Stops:  There will be lunch stops all 3 days.  We will try to stop and stretch/hydrate once per hour; however, some stops could be less frequent as we will be traveling through some remote areas.
